No Sleep Again Tonight

We have a new guard in the control booth. A guard who loves the idea she or he can punish us by leaving the count light on all night.

No reason for it once the guard has walked the gallery and taken count.

That would take five to ten minutes. Light came on at 11:55 p.m. and it is now 12:33 a.m.

Light still on and no reason for it but to deny us sleep.

Funny thing in human nature. The prisoner population has no involvement in this medical lockdown. But the more it last the more the guards get mad about having to do the extra work. So they take it out on us.

Things like this.

Shorting us on ice. Taking a whole month to run commissary.

I see the other men starting to snap under the repeated treatment. Now the cellies are arguing and fighting. Soon it will turn the rage toward staff. A situation they are creating.

Denying sleep is a great cause of short tempers. My world gone to crap. Now 12:40 and the light on for forty-five minutes. No reason for it.

No sleep again tonight.

My name is Larry “Rocky” Harris and I am serving a sixty-five year prison term in the state of Illinois for a crime I didn’t commit. After I went to prison, I began to study the law, and now I am what is called a “prison lawyer.” I provide legal advice to inmates who can't afford a lawyer. I am looking forward to telling my story in this blog, and also providing a forum for prisoners everywhere.
