Corona Virus Measures in the Illinois Prisons

In mid-March we received a memo stating there was no corona virus in the IDOC. Nevertheless, we have been put on lockdown, because of “coronavirus.”

I am in A-Grade with no reason to be placed in isolation status and have all my privileges denied. We are supposed to shower three times a week on a non-security lockdown, but we are only getting a shower once every four days.

The food is terrible

I stand at my door each day and watch the prison worker dump the food from the returned trays into the garbage bags. No one is eating the trays. A waste of taxpayer money.

No officers are wearing masks here

The nurse came around taking temperature with device she ran over my forehead. She was moving cell to cell touching everyone with this device. This seems to me insane and no better way to spread disease. They have personal disposable devices, but they are not using them in order to cut costs. Not cool. I cannot refuse to allow her to touch my face with this device. It was not cleaned before she touched me, and then she touched my celly without cleaning it.

There is no corona virus in the IDOC

So I pose the question, “Does every other state in the United States have their prisoners on lock down status?” And why is the commissary not being run? It is simple to do. We could just place the filled out purchase slip in a laundry bag which the guards could take to the commissary. The commissary workers are showing up and getting paid for every day. They could fill the bags and return them to the cellhouse. Then the deck officer could pass them out to the inmates.

Each shift all the staff show up so they should be put to work. There is no reason to punish us with twenty-four-hour cell confinement.

We have an institutional video channel here, but even the movies have been removed. The channel is programed to lock up and not show anything.

Why…?

So we are locked down for no real reason, then denied commissary, showers, and a movie to watch on the institutional channel. What is the purpose of this? Is it a deliberate move to stop the movies? Why are the prisoners only getting a shower once every four days? Why is there no commissary? This is punishment without justification!

My name is Larry “Rocky” Harris and I am serving a sixty-five year prison term in the state of Illinois for a crime I didn’t commit. After I went to prison, I began to study the law, and now I am what is called a “prison lawyer.” I provide legal advice to inmates who can't afford a lawyer. I am looking forward to telling my story in this blog, and also providing a forum for prisoners everywhere.
